Since I am a surgeon and I often remove difficult teeth, surgical teeth, as well as other teeth, I think it is worth knowing what to pay special attention to, what to do and what not to do after the procedure.

After extraction, you should follow several recommendations such as:

  • Bite the tampon gently in your mouth for 20 minutes to stop the bleeding
  • Do not drink or eat for 3 hours after extraction.
  • Do not smoke for 24 hours after the procedure.
  • After surgery, swelling may occur, which is a normal phenomenon, its greatest intensity occurs after 24 hours and will last for 3-4 days. In order to avoid discomfort and reduce swelling, please apply cold compresses to the cheek for the first 6 hours after the procedure.
  • After some treatments, there may be limited opening of the mouth and bruising. These are normal phenomena and disappear after 5-10 days.
  • After the procedure, brush your teeth gently and carefully. Do not use mouth rinses for 24 hours.
  • It is not recommended to chew gum or eat hard and stringy products that require intense chewing.
  • Immediately after the procedure, it is not advisable to perform excessive physical exercise that causes increased blood pressure.
  • If thread stitching is used, have the threads removed by the dentist at the appointed time.
